Fans of political dissident Aung San Suu Kyi across the world are waiting eagerly to catch their first glimpse of the new Suu Kyi biopic, “The Lady,” starring Michelle Yeoh. But not, apparently, the Lady herself.
Speaking in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Monday, Ms. Suu Kyi said “I’m not really interested and haven’t thought of looking it up on the ‘net or whatever.” She added that she likes the movie’s director, Luc Besson, who she met along with his wife after the film had been made. “But I look upon the film as his version of events. He’s perfectly entitled to make a film based on his version of what happened, and it’s not necessarily what happened and not my version of events either.”

“This sort of thing happens and I take it in a rather detached way,” she said. Southeast Asia Real Time has more.
