Sumba

When set foot in the old settlements on the island of Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara province just shadows of modern life seemed to vanish. The reality in front of eyes showing the remaining life of the prehistoric period, the megalith era. Sumba provide a unique panorama of contrasts. in one hand, offer the modern world is inevitable and had to deal with the legacy of past traditions are very strong.
Sumba was not just the plains, the familiar with a horse whinny Sandel. Also, rather than simply captivating eyes when men show proficiency on horseback, with the body sitting upright on horseback convoy cattle.

The island is known as the Island this Sandelwood save situation contrasts that appear in Waikabubak, the capital of West Sumba district. At first glance, the city is no different from other urban districts in NTT. Some roads are slippery coated hotmix, who writhed under the hills. However, if the feet turn directions to up the hill, there will be found with a row of traditional home life that seemed unattainable changing times.

The island of Sumba in this city, there are a number of old villages that can be enjoyed authenticity, such as Tarung village, Tambelar village, Elu village, Bodo Ede village, and Paletelolu village. Tarung village, for example, is an old village which is located right in the heart of the city. Same with the other, the village is lined with thatch-roofed tower houses, traditional homes typical of Sumba.

Sumba Traditional house consists of three parts. The most basic floor of a barn animals (horses). Then, the second floor is a family place, a bed and a fireplace is located right in the middle. Meanwhile, the tower is a warehouse or store food supplies.

Shades of the past more traditional house was perfect when combined with a grave stone, reminiscent of the life of the great megalithic stone-age-one round of prehistoric times. No doubt, Sumba is a paradise for researchers Megalit.

In every corner of the city and the village is so easy you find a large stone menhir-like pole or pillar, which upheld on the ground, as a warning sign and a symbol of ancestral spirits. Likewise dolmen-prehistoric monument in the form of a flat-backed stone table stone pillar, in various sizes are very easy to find in every village.

Sumba Island Various ornaments of the past is not independent, but closely related to the lives of most people who embrace traditional religion of Sumba Marapu. Marapu is the original religion of Sumba before it touched the influence of Christianity. Now, community Marapu increasingly desperate as there was no guarantee from the state of the existence of beliefs outside of the five official state religion.

Although without recognition from the state, communities still exist in the running Marapu religious ceremonies, including ceremonies of birth, marriage, death, and thanksgiving. In fact, communities in the City of Waikabubak Marapu know of wula podu (holy month) for a month around October and November every year.

the marriage ceremony is charming. However, it requires a tourist fortune to witness the marriage ceremony, especially when there is talk of belis (dowry). Because, belis in a way that cattle can reach dozens of horses, buffaloes and cows to be submitted to the family of women.

In addition to the ceremony wula podu, Marapu community in West Sumba Pasola also have traditional ceremonies, which are very attractive. Same with wula podu, Pasola performances based on the calculation of the traditional elders. This became an obstacle for travelers to plan trips.

Pasola is a war involving two large groups of horsemen and attacked each other with wooden spear guns. Pasola held once a year, between February and March in four regions in West Sumba, namely in Wanokaka, Lamboya, Gaura and sub-district of Kodi.

Unless Sumba Island wula podu and Pasola, funerals also keep the charm of its own culture. A person who died, will not necessarily be buried. But, it could be left between three to one week at home before burial. Every day, a family funeral that the funeral should be entertaining guests with food and drinks.

Sumba Island actually not only offer cultural tours. Its natural charm was no less enthralling. After a weary watch cultural objects, travelers can refresh themselves by watching the waterfall in Weikelo Rice, about 9 km from Waikabubak. Waterfalls are never used as a power source that offers a panoramic view of the natural water sources of the cave is quite large.

Pair of Matz Juveniles Hit the Ground Running...

--Steve Sherack

For a trainer connecting with only roughly 6 percent of his first-time starters (stat courtesy DRF Formulator from a 50-horse sample), Michael Matz sure has unleashed a couple of promising juveniles this summer.

Union Rags (c, 2, Dixie Union--Tempo, by Gone West) was the first to catch the eye at Delaware Park July 12 (TDN Video). Given a 7-1 chance in his unveiling, the bay settled nicely in seventh through an opening quarter in :22.08. With Julian Pimentel aboard, he immediately quickened when asked the question and gamely split horses while rallying on the turn for home. Continuing to roll while riding the rail, the March foal was guided off the fence for his stretch run, and quickly inhaled the leader, striding away in style to score by a decisive 1 3/4 lengths. The final time for the five-furlong affair was :58.25, good for a 65 Beyer.

Four of the eight also-rans from that contest have returned to action so far, including a pair of next out winners. Angel’s Tune (High Cotton), sixth as the even-money favorite in his unveiling for Todd Pletcher, successfully stretched to a route maiden special win at Delaware Aug. 9. Fifth-place finisher High Heat (Latent Heat) resurfaced with a sharp wire-to-wire maiden special weight victory at Delaware Aug. 1. Eighth-place finisher Noon Time Shots (Capture The Gold) returned to place a distant second in a Jersey-bred maiden special at Monmouth July 25. Freddie One Bite (Forest Wildcat), 3 1/2 lengths behind Union Rags in third, repeated that performance in High Heat’s aforementioned maiden win.

Union Rags has registered a trio of smart breezes since sporting the cap and gown. He returned to Matz’s Fair Hill base with a four-furlong move in :52 July 26, then posted a five-furlong bullet in 1:01.60 at the tranquil Maryland training center Aug. 2. Shipped to Saratoga, he has continued to train smartly, firing a best-of-44 four-furlong bullet in :47.66 Aug. 9.

Bred in Kentucky by Phyllis M. Wyeth, Union Rags was re-acquired by his breeder for $390,000 earlier this year as a FTFFEB juvenile after zipping an eighth in :10 1/5 (breeze video). The full-brother to the stakes-placed Geefour previously brought $145,000 as a FTSAUG yearling.

Union Rags’s dam Tempo showed some talent in her shortened career. Trained by Bill Mott, she made her debut worth the wait at the age of three with a 4 1/2-length win in a Calder maiden in December. Sidelined thereafter, the chestnut finally returned to action as 5-year-old with a sharp allowance win at Gulfstream in February. She concluded her three-race career the following month with a second-place finish in an Aqueduct allowance behind Quiet Dance (Quiet American), who later produced Horse of the Year Saint Liam (Saint Ballado).

Next up to take the spotlight for the Kentucky Derby winning trainer was And Why Not (f, 2, Street Cry {Ire}--Alchemist, by A.P. Indy) at Saratoga Aug. 7 (TDN Video).

Outsprinted in seventh through a sizzling opening quarter in :21.73 after breaking alertly over a drying out speed-favoring surface, the 7-1 chance made a flashy move to reach contention on the turn for home. Ridden by Julien Leparoux, she hit the front in the stretch and kept on finding more, drawing off to graduate at first asking by a good looking 5 1/2 lengths. And Why Not stopped the clock for 6 1/2 furlongs over a “good” track in 1:19.71. She earned a 64 Beyer in the victory.

And Why Not/Adam Coglianese
Bred in Kentucky by Helen Groves, Helen Alexander and D.D. Matz, she was purchased by Helen Groves for $775,000 at last year’s FTSAUG sale to dissolve the partnership (TDN Sales Coverage). Out of the very solid graded-stakes placed mare Alchemist, And Why Not is a granddaughter of GI Go For Wand H. heroine and GI Test S. runner-up Aldiza (Storm Cat).

Rinjani Mountain - Lombok - Indonesia

it is about lombok again. I just want to recommend to you who want to travel to lombok(Indonesia) don't forget to hike the Rinjani montain(if you like to hike).
why? because it's beautiful place...
here is description about rinjani mountain:

Mount Rinjani (3726 m asl), is the second highest volcano in Indonesia, at the top has a large caldera with high rock cliffs lined green lake Segara Anak (2010 masl) and at one edge decorated with scattered scattered piles of frozen lava mountains that surround the new New Mountain appeared finger (2376 masl).

It is said by previous climbers that climb on Mount Rinjani is the five star trekking (climbing five stars), signaling and call of those who never reach Rinjani, if a hotel then it is the highest class, five star. Currently there are three official channels ascent to the summit of Mount Rinjani, of course, all three are unique and different characteristics and uses will be determined by the purpose of climbing will be done.

Senaru Path (North)
Is the route most traveled mainly by foreign climbers, it is due to easy access to this location and are in a tourist route to the Senggigi Beach. Village Senaru as the entrance area, you will pass through this pathway can also see other attractions such as the oldest mosque in Lombok Island, Desa Adat Bayan, and Waterfall Spring Gile, in this location also has available a simple inn-lodging and services climbing sufficient.
This path is dominated by tropical rain forest with vegetation density is quite good, you'll pass some of the darkest parts of the forest. And some typical dish such as forest birds chirping, the sound of other animals jokes. Travel from the traps Gawah, until pelawangan Senaru (2641 masl) will pass through four resting place, but this climb is a relentless climb for 6-8 hours because the path continues uphill and few have the "bonus" for the climbers, but do not be upset first, because when I got in pelawangan Senaru can enjoy the charm of Rinjani

Sembalun Path (East)
This path is the top choice if your first goal is the summit of Rinjani, the path is dominated by vast savannas, evergreen trees such as mountain huddled timidly in the midst of reeds, from gate to post Padabalang you can go through between 4-6 hours trips, among the reeds you can find traces of the eruption of the rivers in sand and black rocks, you also will likely be met with fire-cow whose number can be estimated at more than a thousand tails of the field, these weeds.

Passing through this route seemed more relaxed because there are rarely any steep hills, ramps-ramps arguably just got Padabalang. From Padabalang towards pelawangan Sembalun (2902 masl) will feel the real ascent through the 2-3 hour trip, the climbers used to call this section as the "Hill of Torture" despite the fact that if we can be more relaxed so we can enjoy alloy with a collection of savanna forest pine and meadow edelweiss.

Arrive at pelawangan Sembalun should stay at the Camping Ground is located on the eastern caldera aunt. from here you can see Mount Agung in Bali, from the tendapun you can see the Segara Anak Lake and the New Mount beneath your fingers. Pelawangan Sembalun be likened to erminal, from here you can chose whether to the top of Rinjani or to Lake Segara Anak.

The journey to the summit usually begins around pukup 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm, when the sun will rise sebingga you've arrived at the summit and enjoy the beauty of the birth of the sun at this time, and more than half of the trip was dominated by sand, loose sand. Can be at its peak at around 9:00 pm, after that you should fall back to pelawangan because the wind will be very strong along with the increasing sun. Once pelawangan Sembalun then you can prepare yourself to Lake Segara Anak (2-3 hour trip) through the Caldera cliffs along the East and some expanse of reeds to the lake Segara Anak.

Path Timbanuh (South)
Determining the climb through the south is a mix of both lines above or a blend of tropical rain forests and savannas, with the distance from the hamlet of Teak dampai pelawangan Timbanuh about 8-10 hours. Is a new path opened by BINGR, compared to two other lines, facilities and infrastructure is still inadequate However the advantages of this pathway is the availability of epidermis which is pretty much along the route, climbing Timbanuh currently only limited to South pelawangan and South Peak Rinjani, whereas trip to the lake is not recommended because the track conditions are very steep and has not laid out so as the level of danger is very high.

From South pelawangan you can see the crater of Mount New Finger with clear, because in comparison with two other pelawangan, South pelawangan closest to Mount New Finger. On this route you pass some fields kana edelweiss, and you can go to the top of Rinjani south, from the top of this you can only see the Rinjani summit from a distance that is much too far but you can not go there because dihalangiengan - + 230 m and the estimated water content as many as 1375 million m3, discharge excess water contained in the northeast shore of the lake is crowing Puteq you will find a pool of hot water immersion is commonly called Aik Kalak.

Segara Anak lake filled with fish species carp and Mujaer big enough, so if you are going to the lake, we recommend bringing your fishing vacation more memorable so, about the bait you can order in society and Sembalun Senaru. Still around the lake you can see some caves with water sources of sulfur are commonly used to wash the heirloom weapons like dagger, spear and saber.

Yogyakarta - Indonesia

Yogyakarta, together with its twin city Surakarta (Solo), is the cradle of civilization on Java. This city was the seat of power that produced the magnificent temples of Borobudur and Prambanan in the 8th and 9th century and the new powerful Mataram kingdom of the 16th and 17th century. Until today this city continues to produce philosophers, thinkers, master painters and master craftsmen.
Whilst steeped in rich tradition and history, Yogyakarta, lovingly known as Yogya, continues to remain young. This is university town, where students from all over Indonesia from different ethnic backgrounds flock to pursue knowledge and wisdom. For this reason, Yogya is both very Javanese and at the same time a melting pot of different Indonesian cultures.
Yogyakarta (or Jogjakarta) is known as Neverending Asia for its endless attractions and appeal. As one of Indonesia’s 32 provinces, this city is one of the foremost cultural centers of Indonesia. From climbing the magnificent Borobudur temple to watching silversmiths produce amazing jewelry to shopping up a storm at Malioboro road, you’ll never be bored in this small yet bustling city.
