Battery life on a laptop and touch tablet PCs

As with any mobile device battery life is always a concern. What’s the point of doing work on the road it you have to stop at an outlet from time to time and charge your batteries.

Who’s consuming more, a touch tablet or a laptop?

The differences drill down to the screen, which can be rotated on a touch tablet PC and has an external layer that ‘records’ the point where your hand or stylus makes contact with the screen.
This layer consumes some additional power and makes the information on screen less visible, so you’ll need to adjust the luminosity of the screen to a level or two closer to maximum that you would do on a regular laptop. Here’s where the battery life difference will come from, so expect around 5-10% less time away from the socket with a touchscreen tablet.

How do I take care of the battery?

This is similar to what you would normally do on a laptop. So here’s short list:
  • Charge/discharge completely the battery at least once a month (ideal is once a week)
  • Store the battery away from the laptop if you’re not using it for prolonged periods
  • Keep the battery away from extreme weather conditions like too hot or too cold
