Hanging Coffins Of Sagada

Talk about having a spectacular view of the afterlife. in Sagada, the ancient ritual of the hanging coffins of rocks lasted over 2,000 years. The coffins are carved by their future occupants, even if they are unable to cut them, their parents for help. 5 days in a pre-burial feast, the dead are smoked for preservation and bodies are pushed into coffins, which can cause cracking and breaking bones. After the deceased are put inside these coffins, they are then brought to caves high in the cliffs where they join the ranks of their ancestors. Cliffside burial is the preferred method of burial in Sagada.
