Mom On Facebook Sentenced In Drowning Death Of Her Son

A woman who was Northern Colorado to play a game on Facebook, while their 13-month-old baby drowned in a bathtub was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison.

Shannon Johnson, 34, Fort Lupton, cried as District Judge Thomas Quammen said he did not believe that he was a bad person or intentionally killed her son, Greeley Tribune. But, he added, that does not mean that his conduct was not criminal.

"You left that little boy in a bathtub, so you can have fun on the computer games," said Quam. "And you left the 13-month-old human, little Joseph, incredibly, for these reasons ".

Johnson pleaded guilty in March to the negligence that caused the death of his son. The charge that carries a broad condemnation of four to 12 years, but left open the possibility of alternative sanctions, which means it could have avoided spending time behind bars. The authorities have rejected this option, arguing that he did not want to downplay the seriousness of his crime.

According to court documents, Johnson put his son in the bathtub a little 'after September 20 8:30 Then she left him unattended while he went into another room and share videos, check status updates, and play the World Cafe on Facebook.

When he returned to the bathroom, he found Joseph and face down in the water.

Johnson called 911 to say Joseph was not breathing. Paramedics managed to resuscitate the child, but she was dead
